Research Program
Research Thrust 1
Enhancing Access to Care for Heart Failure and Other Chronic Conditions
In our lab, we’re committed to improving access to care for heart failure and other chronic conditions. Here’s our approach:
- Improving the design and adoption of remote monitoring devices and wearable sensors for patient care
- Studying how AI and digital tools can support caregivers
- Identifying barriers to access to care across underserved communities
Research Thrust 2
Designing Digital Tools for Access to Primary Care
We’re passionate about enhancing access to primary care physicians through digital tools:
- Our lab is developing platforms that facilitate virtual consultations, diagnosis and health system navigation.
- We’re investigating barriers to primary care access in hard to reach communities in the Canada, the US and Internationally.
Research Thrust 3
Improving Physician Wellbeing and Capacity
Our lab recognizes the strain administrative tasks place on physicians. Here’s our focus:
- We’re investigating how automation and AI can alleviate administrative burdens. By automating routine tasks (such as appointment scheduling and documentation), we free up valuable physician time.
- Investigating how health information technology design affects physician mental workload.
Research Thrust 4
Advancing Human-Centered Design and Evaluation Methods
Our lab is at the forefront of innovative methods for the design and evaluation of digital health solutions. Here’s what we’re working on:
- Co-Design with Patients: Rather than designing in isolation, we actively involve patients in the design process.
- Community based participatory evaluation: We’re exploring novel methods to engage hard-to-reach populations, ensuring inclusivity.
- Developing equity-focused evaluation approaches to improve access and safety of health devices in marginalized communities.
- AI-Driven Evaluation: Studying the impact of automating usability testing.
